Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, and her godparents. Her father left her family. As a child she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to the word association. Ford began to be interested in acting as a teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one month, she decided that it wasn't suitable for her. Ford instead applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among Ford's classmates. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however, by that time, she had already made her television debut in an episode from 1991 in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. The stage was her main focus and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate started to get noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in the year 1996.
