The actress speaks French, German, English and Romanian fluently. Her mother played the violin, Her father is a theater professor in one of the best Romanian drama schools. "The young Actor Gala Mangalia awarded her the Best Female Actor Award of 2000. In 2008 The European Film Promotion Board recognized her as a European Shooting Star. In 2007, she starred on the Romanian movie 4 luni 3 semaines si2 zile (4 months, 3 weeks 3 Weeks, 3 Weeks, 2 Days) which was directed produced by Cristian Mungiu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days). The film was awarded two prizes at the Cannes Film Festival (the Cinema Prize from the French National Education System & the FIPRESCI Prize). Youth Without Youth by Francis Ford Coppola was a different film where she starred. She portrayed Yasim Awar in the BBC's 5 episode The Last Enemy miniseries. Marinca played roles in Oliver Hirschbiegel's Five Minutes of Heaven as well as the Romanian drama Boogie. In the following year, she was a major role in 2014's Fury where she played Irma her German maternal aunt to Emma.
