Awkwafina
Awkwafina was an American performer and actress. She started by releasing humorous, cleverly written rap songs that addressed topics like race and sexual orientation. Then she expanded her fan base to Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her very first musical encounter. She was a trumpet player. In the following years, she took up traditional and hip-hop training. In the college years, she remained focused on her studies, and then majored both in women's study and journalism. While she was for a brief amount of time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also available. She turned her attention to music only after she graduated. The track My Vag, a response track to Mickey Avalon's My Dick gained viral popularity on the Internet in 2012. It eventually made it on her debut album Yellow Ranger released in 2014. On the album, there were other viral hits including Queef (body-positive) as well as NYC Bitche$1. The latter song was linked directly to another project, Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide, which was published in the year 2015. She opted to pursue a career as an actor after having completed her two previous endeavors, author and musician. Her film credits include films such as Neighbors 2, Storks, and Bad Rap. In the year 2018 she scored a number of notable roles that were a breakthrough, like Dude Ocean's 8, or Crazy Rich Asians. In June she released her first film In Fina We Trust.
